UX Product Designer

Overview

Archer is an aerospace company headquartered in Silicon Valley, building an advanced air mobility platform that includes air taxis, unmanned aircraft systems and aviation-related physical AI solutions. It is best known for Midnight, its electric air taxi, but this role is not on that programme. Instead the UX Product Designer joins the AI Products organisation, which builds consumer software for people who love to fly, including mobile apps, websites and web apps for flyers, flight enthusiasts and pilots. The product has not been announced, but it is a consumer app with a large user base, and design decisions over the next year will shape its next phase of growth. The role is based in South East Hampshire in the United Kingdom.

AI Products is a software organisation of roughly 100 people inside a company of aerospace engineers and expects to grow substantially. It combines the resources of a larger organisation with the startup-style product development of a smaller UK-based team.

The designer handles end-to-end product design for consumer aviation apps on iOS and Android and the supporting websites and web apps. Users range from casual flyers and enthusiasts to working pilots who need fast, accurate and trustworthy information. The role includes running product explorations, testing directions with users and the team and dropping weak ideas early, taking design leadership on projects with context from Design Leadership, product management and engineering, shipping to the App Store and Google Play and refining from analytics, experiments, reviews and research, and raising the standard of craft across the organisation.

Requirements

Archer asks for at least five years of product design experience and a record of shipping features for consumer mobile apps, ideally at a startup, big tech company or both. Candidates should have live products they can discuss in detail, deep fluency in native iOS and Android design including Human Interface Guidelines and Material Design, strong systems thinking across mobile and web, experience using data such as engagement and retention metrics to shape design, comfort with ambiguity and a portfolio that shows thinking as well as polished screens. Being a pilot or aviation enthusiast, experience with real-time data, maps or location, growing consumer apps, working with AI and ML teams, and shipping in regulated or safety-adjacent domains are bonuses.
