Staff Software Engineer, Backend (Identity International)
Overview
Affirm offers consumers a clear, predictable way to pay over time with no hidden fees. Identity is the first step of the customer journey and a foundation of its global expansion. The International Expansion Unit owns Identity for every market outside North America, building and expanding Identity Data Management, KYC Verification and Decisioning capabilities, and driving architectural changes that affect Identity services globally, while operating compliantly across different regulatory environments. The work directly affects approval rates, conversion and fraud exposure. Affirm is hiring a Staff Software Engineer, Backend, for Identity International, working remotely in the United Kingdom.
The engineer sets technical strategy for the team over a year-long horizon and ties it to business-impacting projects, collaborates with product management, design and analytics so risks and trade-offs are understood, and acts as a force multiplier through technical solutions and operational processes. The role also owns operations and availability, with monitoring, triage rotations, playbooks, testing and alerting in place, sets code review and design standards and advocates for them through writing and tech talks, and develops talent through feedback and example.
Requirements
Affirm looks for eight or more years designing, developing and launching backend systems at scale in languages such as Python or Kotlin, and an extensive record of building highly available distributed systems with technologies such as AWS, MySQL, Spark and Kubernetes. Candidates should have delivered major features or system components, or retired existing functionality, through a technical and execution plan, write high-quality code, work comfortably in ambiguity from low-level detail to large-system architecture, and show a record of gathering and acting on feedback. Strong verbal and written communication for a global team is expected.
What you get
The base pay range is 142,000 to 190,000 pounds per year, within a package that may include monthly stipends for health, wellness and tech, fully subsidised medical, dental and vision cover for employees and dependents, and equity. Affirm is remote-first, offers flexible time off and an employee stock purchase plan, and invites new hires to an in-person onboarding.
Who can apply
Visa sponsorship is available for suitable candidates. Affirm provides accommodations for candidates with disabilities during interviews.
