Senior Software Engineer in Build Engineering

Overview

Graphcore is a developer of AI compute hardware, software and systems infrastructure, and is part of the SoftBank Group. Its teams include AI research specialists, silicon designers, software engineers and systems architects. The company is hiring a Senior Software Engineer in Build Engineering in Cambridge, United Kingdom, to join its Software Infrastructure team.

The Build Engineering team is a new function within Software Infrastructure and Software Operations, focused on building and integrating the machine learning software stack. The engineer develops tools and services that improve the build, test, deployment and productisation of ML software components, works with high-performance computing AI platforms and gains experience with distributed systems. They work closely with QA and development teams to understand how the stack is built, promote good build practices, and show that the stack works together and is reproducible in secure, sandboxed environments.

Responsibilities include developing internal tooling for building, testing and integrating the ML software stack, building tools and technical processes for software releases, advising developers on build practices and dependency management, communicating regularly with developers, tech leads and architects, working with QA to resolve integration issues, and contributing fixes to the stack.

Requirements

Essential requirements are knowledge of Python or C++ or a similar language, an understanding of build processes and frameworks, experience in Linux environments and good communication skills. Desirable experience includes remote caching and execution such as Bazel, build tools such as CMake, testing frameworks such as PyTest and GoogleTest, integration tools such as Buildstream, the software development lifecycle, building and using containers such as Docker or Podman, and software architecture patterns.
