Senior Data Engineer
Overview
XYZ Reality is an award-winning Series B company scaling across the UK, US and Europe, working to modernise the construction industry through a BIM platform. Its teams cover cloud development, data governance and processing pipelines, electronics, embedded software and hardware, mechanical design, AI and computer vision, and data science. It is hiring a full-time Senior Data Engineer at its London office, with hybrid working.
The engineer supports the existing technology stack and develops new features with performance and scalability in mind, working closely with the API and backend development team and the data pipeline team. Responsibilities include designing, developing and maintaining Python data pipelines, writing SQL queries and procedures for pipelines and API services, debugging and improving the existing codebase, writing unit and integration tests, profiling performance and stress testing, documenting data models, ETL and ELT pipelines and code, and collaborating with client application and cloud teams. Adaptability and willingness to learn new technologies and contribute to different technical areas are expected.
Requirements
The company asks for a bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field, or equivalent proven experience in database and data pipeline development. Required skills are hands-on experience with code-driven data orchestration tools, solid relational database and SQL experience, strong Python and object-oriented programming, data modelling for transactional and analytical systems, strong debugging and performance optimisation skills, proficiency with Git including code reviews, and good communication. Familiarity with CI/CD and database migration tooling, REST or GraphQL API design, Linux, containers and orchestration, and test-driven development with PyTest is preferred.
