Production Engineer
Overview
Monumental is automating on-site construction with robotics and software, with the aim of making construction software-defined and autonomous so that bespoke buildings can go up in a day with minimal labour. It is backed by a 32 million dollar Series B led by Khosla Ventures and Plural, and its team includes engineers, operators and technicians from companies such as Palantir, Qualcomm, Dyson, Tesla, Meta and Google DeepMind. It is hiring a full-time Production Engineer in Amsterdam, Netherlands.
Monumental already deploys robots on sites in the Netherlands and the UK, with the US expected within a year. The Production Engineer takes the R&D fleet towards large-series production, moving from tens of robots a year to hundreds and then thousands, and keeps the growing fleet deployable by making design changes to improve reliability and serviceability. The headline goal is to raise quarterly output from 30 sets of robot systems to 100 within a year, building production capability rather than inheriting it.
Tasks include taking prototypes to production-ready modules, finding and fixing design flaws, assembling modules and addressing sources of friction with the hardware team, developing fixtures, jigs and light automation, identifying processes that are better outsourced to suppliers while keeping quality, and producing drawings, assembly instructions and quality checks. The engineer works with the hardware R&D team at early development stages and in the workshop on assembly processes and production space.
Requirements
Monumental looks for industry experience, ideally at a venture-backed start-up, moving products from prototype to production, and a hands-on, analytical mindset. Skills include mechanical assembly such as press fits, fastener selection and harnesses, strong GD&T and 2D and 3D drawing, structured process documentation such as work instructions and quality checklists, and good English. A BSc in mechanical, electrical, manufacturing or industrial engineering or equivalent, robotics or electromechanical familiarity, and ERP experience such as Odoo are nice to have. Generalists who focus on outcomes are welcome even if they do not meet every qualification.
What you get
The company works onsite five days a week from a city-centre Amsterdam facility with a fully equipped workshop and robot testing floor, and is explicitly not hybrid or remote-first.
Who can apply
Visa sponsorship is available for suitable candidates. Monumental does not currently support internships.
