Overview

Plaid builds the tools that developers use to let people connect their financial accounts to apps and services, working with companies such as Venmo and SoFi, large banks and several Fortune 500 firms. Its network covers 12,000 financial institutions across the US, Canada, UK and Europe. The company is hiring a full-time Public Policy Manager for the UK and EU, based in the London area.

The manager leads policy work across both regions, partnering with the Head of Policy and the Head of Europe Legal and Compliance, and advocates for a secure, consumer-friendly financial ecosystem in which people can use their financial data to access products and services. Issues range from cybersecurity and privacy to data use and competition. Plaid wants a resourceful, strategic thinker who reads political and regulatory dynamics well and can turn technical and business concepts into clear policy positions.

Responsibilities include building and owning relationships with regulators, government officials, legislators, consumer groups, trade associations and financial institutions across the UK and EU, representing Plaid in industry working groups and policy forums on open banking, open finance, smart data, payments, security and privacy, leading research and analysis that shapes positions, owning planning and execution of the UK and EU policy agenda, working with Legal, Compliance, Communications, Marketing, Product, Engineering and Sales, and tracking emerging policy trends and risks.

Requirements

Plaid asks for six or more years in UK or EU financial services policy, for example at a regulator such as the Financial Conduct Authority, in government such as HM Treasury, in Parliament, at a trade association or in-house. Candidates should have strong existing relationships with policymakers, regulators, financial institutions, trade associations, think tanks and consumer groups, a record of advocacy and policy influence, and strong communication skills with the ability to build consensus across the political spectrum. Curiosity about product, technology and AI is expected. Policy experience across both the UK and EU, work on open banking, open finance, payments or data-sharing policy, and being based in London are nice to have.

What you get

Benefits are described as comprehensive, including medical, dental, vision and a retirement plan, with equity or commission depending on the position. Pay depends on scope, experience and location.

Who can apply

Visa sponsorship is available for suitable candidates. Plaid encourages applications even where experience does not fully match the description and provides reasonable accommodations for candidates with disabilities.
