Frontier Agent Engineering Manager, Enterprise
Overview
Scale AI is a data foundation for AI, helping enterprises and government organisations build and deploy production AI applications through its data annotation platform, generative AI solutions and enterprise AI capabilities. It is hiring a Frontier Agent Engineering Manager, described as a Forward Deployed AI Engineering Manager, for its Enterprise team in London, United Kingdom.
The role is the technical bridge between Scale AI's AI capabilities and its most strategic customers. It combines deep engineering and AI expertise with leading a team and working on customer-facing problems, including working directly with customer engineering teams to integrate AI into critical workflows.
Responsibilities fall into several areas. In customer integration and deployment, the manager designs custom integrations with customer cloud platforms, data warehouses and internal APIs, builds data connectors and ETL pipelines, and deploys models and agents within customer security and compliance boundaries. In AI agent development, the team builds production-grade agents for areas such as customer support, data analysis, content generation and workflow automation, designs multi-agent systems, implements evaluation frameworks and human-in-the-loop workflows. Prompt engineering work includes prompt strategies, libraries and A/B testing, plus retrieval-augmented generation systems and fine-tuning pipelines where suitable. As engineering manager and technical contact for strategic accounts, the person leads the team, works with Scale's product and engineering teams, documents architectures, debugs across the stack, prototypes quickly and spots chances to productise common patterns. Example projects include a due diligence research agent for a professional services firm, a churn prediction model for a telecom company and a voice agent for a healthcare organisation.
Requirements
Scale AI requires five or more years of software engineering experience with three or more years of management, strong fundamentals in data structures, algorithms and system design, production Python skills with ML and AI frameworks such as LangChain, LlamaIndex, HuggingFace or the OpenAI API, and experience with AWS, GCP or Azure and modern data infrastructure. Strong problem-solving and clear communication to technical and non-technical audiences are expected. Preferred experience includes deep LLM knowledge, deploying agents in production, vector databases, open-source contributions, containers and CI/CD, infrastructure as code such as Terraform or Bicep, familiarity with SOC 2, GDPR and HIPAA, and customer-facing technical consulting.
