Overview

Niantic Spatial builds spatial AI models and services that help people and machines reason about and act in the physical world, turning camera imagery, video, sensor data and archives into accurate, AI-readable representations of real places. It is hiring a full-time 3D Reconstruction Research Scientist or Engineer for its Research Team in London, United Kingdom.

The team develops reconstruction technology that turns casually captured or domain-specific imagery into high-fidelity 3D reconstructions, covering Structure-from-Motion, 3D Gaussian Splatting, feed-forward models and generative models. It has shipped 360 splatting to consumers and enterprise customers, built splatting technology that runs on phones, and published at CVPR, ICCV, ECCV and SIGGRAPH. The role spans academic research through to shipping directly to customers, and is open to both junior and senior researchers, with scope calibrated to experience.

The work includes original research in 3D computer vision, machine learning and spatial AI, and publication at top venues. It also includes designing and evaluating algorithms for 3D reconstruction, neural scene representations, meshing and geometric deep learning, moving ideas into customer-facing products, running large-scale experiments and benchmarks, and rapid prototyping for enterprise customers. The scientist collaborates with researchers in computer vision, machine learning, graphics and robotics.

Requirements

The company asks for a PhD in computer vision, robotics, machine learning, computer science, mathematics, physics or a closely related field, or equivalent demonstrated research experience in industry. Candidates should have a strong research record in 3D computer vision, such as reconstruction, depth estimation, novel view synthesis, SfM or SLAM, with meaningful publications at top-tier venues. Strong Python skills and hands-on PyTorch experience are required, along with evidence of carrying an idea from research into something real and the independence to drive projects from idea to handoff. Experience with COLMAP or similar tools, C++ or CUDA, and traditional 3D techniques such as meshing and texturing is a plus.

What you get

The base salary is described as a competitive market rate, with an annual bonus, equity and a comprehensive benefits package. The role is based in the London office, with three days per week in the office.

Who can apply

Visa sponsorship is available for suitable candidates. Applicants who do not meet every listed qualification are encouraged to apply.
