Overview

Phlair, a climate technology company developing electrochemical Direct Air Capture to pull CO2 from the air for permanent storage or conversion into CO2-negative chemicals, is looking for a Working Student or Intern for its Control Team, covering systems and data infrastructure. The position is based on site in the Munich area, where the offices in Ismaning house the pilot plant and the team works together five days a week. Phlair's flagship Project Dawn aims to scale the technology, and the company counts Frontier Climate, Stripe and Shopify among its partners.

What you will do

The role builds and manages the data pipeline that captures information from Beckhoff PLCs via OPC-UA and other fieldbus technologies, and structures and maintains the databases, such as InfluxDB and PostgreSQL, that store experimental data. The student also owns the Grafana stack, creating dashboards that let scientists compare experiments visually, develops internal tools and AI-enabled workflows in Python or Claude Code to automate the path from raw experiment to reported insight, and keeps data flowing reliably from sensor to cloud. Occasional extra tasks, especially in mechanical build-out, are expected.

Requirements

Candidates should be enrolled in or have completed studies in computer science, mechatronics, electrical engineering or a related technical field, with proven experience in databases and Grafana, an understanding of IoT architectures and industrial protocols (OPC-UA and Beckhoff PLC experience are a big plus), and proficiency in Python for data processing and automation. High ownership, attention to detail and the ability to turn scientific requirements into technical specifications matter. Availability on site for at least six months is required. Visa sponsorship may be available for suitable candidates.

What you get

Phlair offers a competitive salary and stock options, 30 vacation days including 2 days of recreational leave, a public transport pass for all of Germany, relocation support, fitness and wellness benefits, team lunches prepared by a chef and direct access to the CEO, CTO and CSO.
