Overview

The World Health Organization, through the UNDP/UNFPA/UNICEF/WHO/World Bank Special Programme of Research, Development and Research Training in Human Reproduction (HRP), is seeking a consultant for sexual and reproductive health and rights research governance and capacity strengthening. HRP identifies research priorities, coordinates interdisciplinary research and helps countries, especially low-income and lower-middle-income ones, build research capacity. The consultancy is full-time and home-based for an expected six months.

What the role involves

The work centres on coordinating the research capacity strengthening strategy and supporting the Research Project Review Panel (RP2) review process. On capacity strengthening, the consultant builds and runs a community of practice with the IBP network, coordinates an HRP working group, supports the monitoring, evaluation and learning framework, and prepares reports, case studies and briefing materials. On governance, the consultant tracks the RP2 review workflow and timelines, maintains reviewer databases, templates and trackers, supports the RP2 webpage and reviewer resource hub, and advances standard operating procedures led by the RP2 Secretariat.

Requirements

Applicants need a first university degree in global health, public health, social sciences, health sciences or a related field; an advanced degree in public health is desirable and project management certification is an advantage. At least five years of international experience in sexual and reproductive health research and research governance is required, including developing SOPs, quality assurance systems, review frameworks and methodologies, and coordinating governments, civil society, academic and multilateral partners. Skills include clear writing, audit-ready SOPs and templates, project management and familiarity with responsible AI use and data governance in research. Expert English is essential; basic French or Spanish is an advantage.

What you get

Pay falls under Pay Band B, from USD 7,000 to USD 9,980 per month, excluding travel costs, with the final amount set under applicable consultancy arrangements. Where travel is required, WHO covers authorised costs and a subsistence allowance, while the consultant handles visa requirements.
