Overview

The Afya na Haki Institute administers the Litigating Reproductive Justice in Africa Fellowship Programme 2026. This full-time, in-person engagement lasts between six and twelve months at the institute. The programme aims to enhance African capacity in litigation, research, capacity development, and strategic communication while supporting collaborative and evidence-based approaches to reproductive justice. It targets professionals seeking practical experience where social justice, human rights, law, and health intersect.

Who can apply

The opportunity is open to qualified individuals from Africa, including scholars, researchers, litigants, practitioners, and activists who are passionate about reproductive justice and sexual and reproductive health and rights. Candidates must possess at least a master's degree in public health, law, social sciences, gender studies, mass communication, human rights, or another discipline relevant to sexual and reproductive health and rights. Prior experience in litigation, research, project management, or strategic communications concerning sexual and reproductive health and rights is an added advantage. Applicants from both Francophone and Anglophone Africa are welcome, and individuals fluent in both French and English are especially encouraged to apply.

What you get

Participants receive a full-time placement lasting six to twelve months, providing practical professional experience and exposure to careers in advocacy, research, human rights, litigation, and sexual and reproductive health and rights. Fellows contribute to the institute's programmes while building expertise in reproductive justice, evidence generation, legal strategies, and strategic communications, alongside collaborating with organizations, practitioners, and researchers across Africa.

Requirements

Interested candidates must submit a complete application package consisting of a detailed curriculum vitae or resume, a motivation letter outlining their interest in the programme, copies of relevant academic documents, identification documents including a national identity card and/or a valid passport, names and contact details for three referees, and at least one reference letter from a referee.

How to apply

All completed application materials must be submitted via email to info@afyanahaki.org. Candidates must verify that their submissions include every required document and clearly demonstrate how their career goals, professional experience, and academic background align with the objectives of the fellowship.

Key dates

The final deadline for submitting applications is 23 October 2026. Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted by the institute.
