Senior Software Engineer

Overview

Checkatrade is hiring a Senior Software Engineer to join the Trust and Safety team based in Moorgate, London. In this role, the engineer will own and evolve the core systems responsible for verifying tradespeople, processing reviews, moderating content, and maintaining marketplace integrity at scale. Responsibilities include designing reliable event-driven workflows, leading production incident responses, tightening operational monitoring and authentication, and collaborating directly with vetting and reviews teams.

Requirements

Applicants should possess strong TypeScript skills and comfort owning a service end to end. The role requires experience with Fastify or a similar Node.js framework, solid HTTP knowledge, and event-driven instincts involving idempotency and the outbox pattern. Candidates need full-stack comfort including Next.js, along with proficiency in Datadog, SQL, and Google Cloud Platform basics such as Pub/Sub backlogs and dead-letter queues. Additionally, applicants must have experience leading production incidents, identifying systemic problems during design, and regularly utilizing AI tools like Cursor or Claude Code.
