Overview

Quandela is hiring a full-time Senior Optical Systems Engineer to join the QPU Prototyping team in Massy, France. This role focuses on developing and integrating the optical systems used in quantum processors. The position involves approximately 80 percent hands-on experimental work and 20 percent technical coordination, with a requirement to own a major optical development work package within the next-generation QPU programme. Visa sponsorship may be offered for suitable candidates.

Who can apply

Candidates can come from either academic or industrial backgrounds with relevant experience in fibered optical systems, laser systems, experimental optics, and optical metrology. Applicants must hold a PhD in Optics, Photonics, Physics, or related fields, and have more than 5 years of experimental experience, which includes postdoctoral research. Professional English proficiency is required, while French is not necessary.

What you get

The position offers competitive compensation aligned with experience, a company savings plan, and profit-sharing. Additional benefits include 100 percent health coverage through Alan, transport reimbursement or a sustainable mobility bonus, and Swile meal vouchers. Employees also receive access to Gymlib, childcare support, a referral programme, and opportunities for technical progression.

Requirements

Applicants must possess hands-on expertise in complex optical systems, alignment, and troubleshooting, along with strong knowledge of linear optics, optical transmission, and precision metrology. The role requires a proven ability to optimise optical performance, solve experimental challenges, organise technical work, and deliver project milestones with experimental rigour and teamwork. Familiarity with technical and system integration, Python for experimental automation and data analysis, semiconductor optics, quantum optical systems, and project management are helpful areas for growth.

How to apply

The recruitment process consists of a Talent Acquisition interview lasting 30 to 45 minutes, followed by a Hiring Manager interview lasting 45 to 60 minutes. Subsequent stages include a technical discussion on previous experimental work, a technical case study or presentation with the team, reference checks, a team meeting, and an offer.
