Overview

Fractile is a company founded in 2022 that focuses on reinventing the hardware used to run frontier artificial intelligence models. The organization builds chips and systems designed to efficiently generate outputs at thousands of tokens per second while managing the complexity and capacity challenges of operating large models at very long contexts.

The Hardware organization at Fractile is responsible for designing the chips and systems that power the company's artificial intelligence inference accelerator. This work spans chip-level architecture and interconnects, board design, thermal management, full system integration, and bring-up. The System Architecture team defines how the hardware comes together and collaborates with digital design, verification, firmware, and software teams to ensure architectural choices translate into working silicon and reliable hardware platforms.

As an Early Career System Architect, the role involves supporting senior architects in defining and refining system architecture, alongside gaining hands-on exposure to early prototyping, bring-up, and system testing as concepts develop into physical hardware.

Who can apply

This opportunity is suited for individuals early in their careers who possess a strong foundation in digital systems and computer architecture. This background may have been acquired through a relevant academic degree, internships, or personal projects. Candidates should be comfortable working across hardware, firmware, and software disciplines and demonstrate curiosity about transitioning complex hardware systems from initial concept to production.

Requirements

Applicants must hold or be in their final year of studying for a degree in Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, or a related field. Candidates need to show exposure to system-level design concepts such as power, thermal, I/O, memory, or interconnect architectures through academic coursework, internships, or personal projects. Some familiarity with digital design flows is also required.

Additionally, applicants must be comfortable working across multiple technical disciplines and possess strong communication skills capable of explaining technical concepts clearly. Desirable qualifications include exposure to artificial intelligence acceleration, high-performance computing, or data-centric architectures, as well as hands-on FPGA prototyping, hardware bring-up, and familiarity with SystemC or MATLAB. Because the work involves technologies subject to UK, US, and international export control regulations, certain positions may require additional eligibility checks.

What you get

The position offers a competitive salary that reflects the candidate's experience and the specialist nature of the role, accompanied by meaningful equity. Additional benefits include private medical, dental, and vision coverage, a contributory pension, twenty-five days of holiday plus bank holidays, and life and critical illness insurance.
