Overview

Fractile is hiring an Early Career Compute Architect to join the hardware department in London or Bristol. The organization was founded in 2022 to build chips and systems aimed at radically reinventing hardware for frontier artificial intelligence models, focusing on efficient output generation and addressing capacity challenges at long contexts. The architecture team works across compute engine definition, instruction set architecture design, memory hierarchies, and interconnects, collaborating closely with logical design, physical design, and verification teams.

Who can apply

Applicants need a degree in Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience. Candidates should have a foundational understanding of computer or processor architecture, including matrix- and vector-centric floating-point arithmetic and memory hierarchies, acquired through study, projects, internships, or research. Prior industry experience as a processor architect is not required, provided candidates have hands-on exposure to processor or accelerator design through final-year projects, FPGA builds, RISC-V implementations, internships, or research.

Requirements

Candidates must have some exposure to register-transfer level design concepts and understand how physical design constraints affect architectural choices. Additional experience with architectural performance modelling tools such as gem5, SystemC, or custom cycle-accurate simulators, compiler interactions, or artificial intelligence acceleration is highly valued. Applicants must also be clear communicators able to work across multidisciplinary teams in fast-paced environments. Due to international export control regulations applicable to the technology, certain positions may require additional eligibility checks.

What you get

The position offers a competitive salary reflecting experience and the specialist nature of the role, alongside meaningful equity. Additional benefits include private medical, dental, and vision insurance, a contributory pension scheme, 25 days of holiday plus bank holidays, and life and critical illness insurance.
