Overview

World Wildlife Fund is offering a paid internship for a graduate-level library and information science student or recent graduate to help build the new WWF Legacy Library in Washington, DC. The intern works within the Facilities unit alongside the Legacy Library Committee, organizing books, reports, periodicals, flyers, brochures and internal documents that reflect the organization's history. The role is hybrid, requires at least two days a week in the office, and pays USD 23 per hour.

What you get

The intern designs the system WWF will use to classify, manage, acquire and lend its library holdings. Using library science principles and current cataloging practice, the intern builds a classification structure, writes a draft guidance document, and presents it to the committee and WWF leadership for approval. After approval, the intern helps set up an efficient process for applying it to the holdings and prepares recommendations on acquisitions, library management and lending in a final report for the committee.

The placement gives practical experience in assessing materials, making descriptive decisions, organizing library space and adapting professional standards to a large nonprofit, and builds skills in cataloging, records management, research, documentation and project coordination. Relocation assistance is not provided.

Who can apply

Applicants should be enrolled in, or recently graduated from, an American Library Association-accredited Master of Library Science or Master of Library and Information Science program. Interest in wildlife conservation, earth sciences or a related subject is expected. Applicants must already be legally authorized to work in the United States, because WWF does not provide visa sponsorship to interns.

Requirements

Candidates should understand library science principles and current approaches to recording, managing and cataloging books, reports, flyers and brochures. Strong organization, accuracy, attention to detail, time management and self-motivation are sought, along with the ability to work both independently and in a team.

How to apply

Applicants upload a resume and cover letter highlighting library science education, cataloging knowledge and relevant conservation or nonprofit experience. Only candidates under consideration are contacted, and phone inquiries are not accommodated.
