Overview

Save the Children is offering a full-time New Business Development internship at its Kenya Country Office in Nairobi. The intern joins the Regional and Multi-Country Programmes team, which covers Kenya, Madagascar, Somalia, Uganda, Rwanda, Sudan, South Sudan, Tanzania, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Malawi and Ethiopia. The post is at Intern grade, carries Job Identification number 17798 and reports to the Head of Programme Development, with a matrix line to the Head of Regional and Multi-Country Programmes. No staff report to the intern.

The purpose of the role is to support resource mobilisation and new business development.

What you do

The intern researches institutional donors, regional corporate partners and non-traditional funding sources using funding platforms and sector publications, and helps set up calendars and systems for sharing funding intelligence with programme leadership. They also maintain files and data on SharePoint and other Save the Children platforms.

Proposal work includes helping with concept notes, technical briefs, communication materials and donor engagement packages, along with reviewing, proofreading, packaging and sharing documents. The intern supports regional proposal processes such as opportunity analysis, kick-off meetings, follow-up actions, non-technical sections and After Action Reviews, and assists with pipeline and portfolio analysis by identifying trends and factors that affect success rates.

Who can apply

The internship suits people who have recently completed, or are studying, business management, project management, international relations, international development or a related field. Exposure to fundraising or business development in an NGO or INGO setting is highly desirable. Residents of Nandi County are specifically encouraged to apply.

Requirements

Applicants need strong attention to detail, analytical and information management skills, and excellent computer skills, particularly Microsoft Excel, Word and PDF work. Fluent written and spoken English is required, along with good communication, time management, networking and presentation abilities.
