Save the Children Research Consultant Job 2026: Help Shape Education Research in Indonesia
Overview
Save the Children is seeking an experienced research professional as External Collaborator for District Research Support, based in Jakarta, Indonesia (Job Identification 17770). The consultancy supports KREASI, Kolaborasi untuk Edukasi Anak Indonesia, a programme that aims to speed up improvements in literacy, numeracy and character education for preschool and primary school children. KREASI was developed with Indonesia's Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education, the Ministry of Religious Affairs, the National Development Planning Agency, Save the Children and partners in the Mitra Pendidikan Indonesia consortium, and is funded by the Global Partnership for Education through the Multiplier Grant allocated to Indonesia.
The consultant guides and safeguards research by local implementing partners across eight districts, in support of programme learning and policy advocacy. Research covers four outcome areas: curriculum and assessment, teaching practices, educational leadership and child protection. The engagement runs from 19 October 2026 to 31 March 2027, with an estimated 32 working days.
Requirements
Applicants need an advanced degree in social research, education, public policy, statistics or a related field and at least seven years of applied quantitative, qualitative and mixed-methods research experience. They should know the full research process, including gap analysis, design, sampling, instrument development, triangulation, analysis and evidence synthesis, and know Indonesia's education sector well. Proven experience coaching and supervising researchers, strong facilitation and feedback skills and excellent Indonesian and English writing are also required.
The consultant runs an online research induction, then research clinics and mentoring across six stages: ideation and formulation, design and methodology, data collection and processing, analysis and interpretation, conclusions and recommendations, and dissemination and use. At each stage they check rigour, ethics, data quality and that recommendations are specific, actionable and traceable to findings.
What you get
The deliverables are a workplan agreed on 19 to 20 October 2026 (about two days), the research induction on 21 to 27 October 2026 (about two days), and research clinics and mentoring from 28 October 2026 to 28 February 2027 (about 28 days). The consultant reports to the KREASI Research Consultant, with biweekly progress meetings once the workplan is agreed.
