Operations Intern for AVD (Altersvorsorgedepot) (f/m/d)
Overview
Upvest provides an investment API that lets fintechs and financial institutions offer investment and retirement products, working with partners such as DKB, Revolut, N26 and Raisin. From 1 January 2027 the Altersvorsorgedepot replaces the Riester-Rente as Germany's state-subsidised private pension, and Upvest is building the operational infrastructure that lets fintechs and banks offer it. The company is offering an Operations internship in Berlin for this new product, starting before launch so that the intern helps design the processes and then runs them once live.
What you will do
The intern supports day-to-day operations such as contract registration with the central pension subsidy office, contribution management, the annual bonus application and payment reconciliation. They help write the playbooks from scratch, including workflow documentation, step-by-step guides and error catalogues, and work through recurring error cases to find root causes. The role also includes preparing clear answers for partners' support teams on subsidies, transfers and payouts, and pointing out manual workarounds that could be improved or automated.
Requirements
Applicants need German at C1 or above and comfortable English, as the regulation, correspondence and most documentation are in German. They should be students in business, economics, finance, law or a related field, or on a gap year between degrees, and be structured, precise and curious about rules. Comfort with ambiguity and spreadsheets is needed, and experience in financial services or regulated settings is a bonus. Availability is for at least four months, with six preferred, and candidates must be based in Berlin.
What you get
Interns work on a new regulated product with modern technology, join company events such as UpFest, dinners and offsites, and can take part in employee resource groups.
