Overview

The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) is recruiting a Senior Industrial Corridor Development Consultant for a home-based international consultancy (requisition 8152, grade ISA-P5). The work supports efforts to build an integrated, green, inclusive and investment-oriented economic and industrial corridor in the Mano River Union region of West Africa. It focuses on industrial capacity, regional value chains, investment opportunities and institutional coordination rather than only connectivity and commodity exports.

The engagement is 150 working days spread over 10 months and covers an initial diagnostic and project-development phase.

What you do

The consultant reviews existing policies, studies, data and investment pipelines, and supports the West Africa Ministerial Forum on Strategic Economic and Industrial Corridors, scheduled for 15-16 November 2026 in Freetown. This includes technical papers, presentations, briefing materials and draft decision language, as well as screening regional projects and engaging potential investors.

Other tasks include a corridor diagnostic covering infrastructure, logistics, energy, water, digital systems, trade facilitation, skills and inclusion, identifying priority value chains, assessing industrial clusters, proposing policy reforms and designing governance arrangements. The consultant also builds an investment pipeline with project profiles and appraisal criteria, and contributes to financing strategies, an investment facility, an Industrial Corridor Observatory and monitoring systems. The role includes consultations, missions and regional meetings.

Requirements

Applicants need a master's degree or equivalent in a field such as economics, industrial development, regional or urban planning, public policy, international development, finance or engineering. At least 10 years of progressive experience in industrial development, regional integration, economic corridors or investment planning is required, along with technical responsibility for at least three complex corridor, industrialization, special economic zone or investment programme assignments.

Experience in West Africa and familiarity with the Mano River Union, ECOWAS and AfCFTA are desirable, as is knowledge of GIS or financial modelling. English is required and French is strongly desirable.

How to apply

Applications go through the UNIDO Online Recruitment System by 15 October 2026 at 11:59 PM Vienna time.
