Overview

The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) is offering a six-month, full-time internship for Sustainable Investment and Responsible Business at its headquarters in Vienna, Austria (requisition ID 8015, non-staff internship). The placement is in the Sustainable Investments and Responsible Business Unit, part of the Division of Fair Production, Sustainability Standards and Trade within the Directorate of SDG Innovation and Economic Transformation. The expected start date is October 1, 2026.

The intern contributes mainly to the Africa Trade Competitiveness and Market Access Programme, with a focus on its ECOWAS regional component. The work relates to voluntary sustainability standards, sustainability-driven legislation and sustainable supply chains.

What you get

Working under project managers and technical staff, the intern collects and reviews project information, researches sustainability policies, responsible business practices and regulatory developments, and prepares background documents, summaries and draft inputs for reporting and analysis. They also provide administrative and logistical support for meetings, workshops and training, maintain project records, databases and stakeholder contact lists, help with outreach and simple communication materials, and may support other tasks related to sustainable investment and responsible business conduct.

Who can apply

Eligible applicants include those enrolled in a master's degree or equivalent, those in a higher-level university programme, and those in the final academic year of a first university degree such as a bachelor's. English is required. Relevant fields include trade and investment facilitation, development economics and international affairs. Strong writing and information-management skills, attention to detail and comfort with technical material are valuable.
