UNICEF National MICS Consultant 2026: 19-Month Home-Based Consultancy in Uzbekistan
Overview
UNICEF is seeking a National MICS Consultant to support the Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey (MICS-7) in Uzbekistan. The consultancy lasts 19 months, has Tashkent as its duty station, and is home-based with travel. It is intended for nationals of Uzbekistan.
MICS generates internationally comparable data on children and women. Over three decades it has grown from 28 indicators to more than 200 in its seventh round, covering child protection, early childhood development, education, health and nutrition. UNICEF supported the previous survey in Uzbekistan in 2021-2022 and began supporting MICS-7 in 2026 under the 2026-2030 Country Programme.
What you do
The consultant coordinates the survey process together with UNICEF, the National Statistics Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan and other technical experts. Tasks include survey planning, questionnaire design and sampling, training and fieldwork, advising the Committee's Survey Coordinator, supporting data processing and analysis, contributing to report writing and dissemination, supporting data archiving, ensuring MICS protocols are followed, and coordinating with UNICEF's regional and headquarters MICS teams. The role requires extensive travel within Uzbekistan and attendance at regional workshops.
Requirements
Applicants need a Master's degree in Social Sciences, Statistics, Demography, Epidemiology or a related technical field, and at least 10 years of experience coordinating or managing quantitative household surveys. MICS or Demographic and Health Survey experience is requested, along with experience in CAPI data collection, training, data analysis, survey report writing, statistical analysis and SPSS. Excellent oral and written Uzbek, Russian and English are required, and Karakalpak is an asset. Previous MICS experience in Uzbekistan is highly desirable.
The post is assessed as elevated-risk for child safeguarding, so additional vetting applies, and selected candidates undergo reference and background checks.
How to apply
Applicants apply through UNICEF's online recruitment system with an up-to-date TMS profile and CV, a cover letter and a separate financial proposal on the required template. UNICEF charges no processing fee and does not ask for bank account information.
