Overview

UNICEF's Global Programme Division, Gender Equality Section, is seeking a Home-based Research Consultant for a 10.5-month assignment. The post is administratively under New York Headquarters but is remote, with no travel required. The consultant supports gender equality reporting as UNICEF implements its Gender Equality Action Plan (GEAP) for 2026-2029, which aims to advance gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls with particular emphasis on adolescent girls.

What you get

The consultant helps prepare three reporting products: the UN System-Wide Action Plan report, which tracks UN entities' performance on gender equality; the Annual Report on progress on the Gender Equality Action Plan, submitted to the UNICEF Executive Board; and the Global Annual Results Report, aimed at donors, partners and the public. This involves researching and compiling information from many sources and turning complex material into clear, accurate reports within strict formats and tight deadlines. No fixed fee is set; applicants submit their own financial proposal.

Requirements

Applicants need a Master's degree in social sciences, gender studies, international relations or international affairs, public policy or communications, and at least 10 years of progressively responsible professional experience. Excellent writing skills are essential, along with experience preparing reports on gender issues, ideally covering health or education, and experience within an international agency or United Nations organization. Experience with MS Windows, PowerPoint and SharePoint is required.

Full fluency in English is required, and working knowledge of French or Spanish is an advantage. Previous UNICEF experience in children's rights, women and girls' empowerment or gender equality is desirable.

How to apply

Applications go through UNICEF's Talent Management System. Required documents are an updated profile and CV, a cover letter, and a separate financial proposal using the UNICEF template. UNICEF charges no fee at any stage of recruitment, and only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.

Key dates

The post was advertised on 21 August 2026. The deadline is 13 September 2026, Eastern Daylight Time.
