Overview

The UCD School of Biomolecular and Biomedical Science at University College Dublin is hiring a postdoctoral researcher at Level 1 or Level 2 on a temporary 18-month contract. The post sits in the Chromatin Mechanisms in Disease laboratory led by Dr. Eric Conway and is funded through a Wellcome Trust award.

The project studies how the repressive histone modification H2AK119ub1 becomes dysregulated in disease. This modification is added by the PRC1 complex and removed by the PR-DUB complex, and variants in key subunits of both complexes are known causes of conditions such as AML and chromatinopathies. Using cancer and neurodevelopmental disease models, the work will examine how pathogenic variants alter H2AK119ub1 and affect PR-DUB and PRC1 function. Methods include CUT&Tag, Captify, RNA-seq, immunoprecipitation followed by mass spectrometry and high-throughput pooled CRISPR screens.

Depending on the expertise of the successful candidate, the role will be computational biology, wet-lab work or a mix of both.

What you get

The PD1 salary range is 47,273 to 53,925 euro per year and the PD2 range is 55,399 to 60,250 euro per year, with the starting point depending on qualifications and experience. The role offers professional development through the UCD Research Careers Framework and external courses and conferences, and the appointee is encouraged and supported to pursue external funding.

Who can apply

The PD1 level is intended for early-stage researchers, either just after a PhD or moving into a new area. Candidates who have already completed or will soon complete a PD1 stage at UCD, or whose total postdoctoral experience including this post would exceed 4 years, should look at PD2 posts instead. The PD2 level is for researchers who have completed PD1. Those who have finished PD2 at UCD, or whose total postdoctoral experience would exceed 6 years, should look at Research Fellow posts.

How to apply

Applications are submitted through the UCD recruitment system. Late applications cannot be accepted, and any application still in progress at closing time is cancelled automatically. UCD does not require help from recruitment agencies.
