Overview

Imperial College London is offering a full-time, fixed-term position as a Research Associate in Genetic Vector Control within the Department of Life Sciences. Based at the South Kensington Campus in the United Kingdom, this role is part of a new research programme funded by the Gates Foundation aimed at developing self-limiting genetic strategies for the population suppression of Anopheles mosquitoes that transmit malaria. The appointment runs until 31 August 2028 and may be extended for an additional twelve months depending on funding availability. Candidates who have not yet officially been awarded their PhD will be appointed as a Research Assistant.

What you get

The position provides a salary ranging from £50,733 to £59,484 per annum, accompanied by a remuneration package that includes 43 days off per year and pension schemes. The role offers the chance to engage with researchers across the Target Malaria research consortium, access career development support including ten development days each year, and benefit from opportunities for progression within a collaborative environment.

Requirements

Applicants need a PhD level background or equivalent experience in molecular biology and genetic engineering, encompassing DNA cloning, genetic construct design, and CRISPR-Cas9 or related genome-editing approaches. Candidates must have experience with mosquitoes or other model organisms, transcriptomic data analysis, molecular and genetic assays, and basic bioinformatics and data analysis. Experience with embryo microinjection work is considered highly advantageous.

Key dates

The closing date for applications is 2026-11-03. The fixed-term contract concludes on 31 August 2028, with a possible 12-month extension subject to funding.
