Overview

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), working through the United Nations Capital Development Fund (UNCDF), is recruiting an Investment Specialist for Asia Pacific at grade IPSA-11. The post is a home-based, full-time international consultancy under an International Personnel Service Agreement, with a duration of one year. UNCDF is a blended-finance platform within the UN system that mobilizes capital for sustainable development in developing and least developed countries, using grants, loans and guarantees to draw in public and private investment. Its priority areas are SME Finance, Sub-National Finance and Digital Finance.

The specialist works under the Regional Investment Specialists for Asia and the Pacific. Duties include market scoping and research on financing landscapes and policy barriers, designing blended-finance solutions and investment vehicles, and running transactions from due diligence through financial modelling, credit risk assessment and appraisal memorandums. The work may involve concessional loans, guarantees, capitalization grants and performance-based payments. The post also covers technical assistance and capacity building for investees, and project management tasks such as work plans, budgets, donor reports and close-out documentation.

Requirements

Applicants need an advanced degree at Master's level in development, business administration, finance, marketing, economics, accounting or a related field. A relevant Bachelor's degree may be considered with additional experience. Seven years of relevant experience are required with a Master's, or nine with a Bachelor's. At least five years of investment experience is sought in areas such as agricultural or clean energy SMEs, fintech and digital financial inclusion, project finance, microfinance institutions, guarantee instruments and development finance. Experience in venture capital or banking in an international financial setting, such as a development finance institution or impact investor, is required, along with strong Excel financial modelling and experience preparing investment projects with social and environmental goals in developing countries.

Desirable points include private credit or equity investing in emerging or frontier markets, UN or similar institutional experience, and work in or with the Asia-Pacific region or a compatible time zone. English is required.
