Overview

Sightsavers is recruiting a Communications Manager to support its global communications strategy and thematic communications plans. The post is a nine-month fixed-term, part-time role of about 25 to 28 hours per week with some flexibility, and can be based in Nairobi, Kenya, Lagos, Nigeria, Lusaka, Zambia or Accra, Ghana. It suits a communications professional with experience in global health, disability inclusion and international development, who will develop persuasive content and give practical communications support to programme teams across Africa. Salary follows local terms and conditions, and Sightsavers does not normally offer international contracts for this type of post.

What the role involves

The manager helps put global communications strategies and thematic plans into action, contributes to communications budgeting, monitoring and reporting, manages external stakeholders and partners around major activities, helps design and run campaigns, creates content and communications products, and supports programme teams on the ground. The work involves several projects and stakeholders in an international, multicultural setting.

Requirements

Essential requirements include experience delivering global communications strategies and campaigns, project management with proven results, experience in the international development or humanitarian sector, commitment to social justice and to disability and gender inclusion, experience with inclusion-focused communications and accessible communications, budget design and management, team management and work in a global team. Applicants need excellent English and fluency in at least one of Swahili, Hausa, Bemba/Nyanja or Twi, plus strategic thinking, the ability to handle several deadlines, presentation skills, interpersonal skills and competence in Microsoft Office 365. Working French is desirable.

Sightsavers encourages qualified people with disabilities to apply and is a Disability Confident Leader.

How to apply

Applications go through the Sightsavers recruitment portal, where candidates explain their motivation and show how their experience meets the requirements. The process includes online application, shortlisting, a task for shortlisted candidates and remote interviews expected in mid-August. Appointments are made on merit, with background checks and safeguarding controls.
