French Red Cross Seeks Senior Medical Officer: Humanitarian Health Roster | Emergency Response | Apply by 18 October 2026
Overview
The French Red Cross is recruiting experienced medical professionals to join its Senior Medical Officer roster for potential emergency humanitarian deployments. This initiative builds a pool of qualified experts who can be mobilized for future responses to natural disasters, population displacement, epidemics, and other humanitarian crises. This recruitment does not involve an immediate specific assignment, and joining the roster does not guarantee a deployment.
Who can apply
Applicants must hold a medical degree, a registered nursing qualification, or an equivalent clinical professional qualification. Candidates are required to have at least five years of clinical experience, preferably in emergency or community settings, alongside a minimum of one year of experience working with international humanitarian organizations. Furthermore, applicants must demonstrate experience supervising and managing multidisciplinary teams, as well as experience caring for vulnerable populations in fields such as pediatrics, obstetrics and gynaecology, maternal health, infectious diseases, and general medicine. Language requirements include written and spoken fluency in French, at least B2-level proficiency in written and spoken English, and a preferred knowledge of additional regional languages like Spanish or Arabic.
What you get
Successful candidates will be admitted to the French Red Cross Senior Medical Officer roster to be considered for future emergency humanitarian deployments coordinated through the International Operations Directorate and International Emergency Unit. Roster members may be called upon to provide primary and emergency healthcare, triage, patient stabilization, wound care, and referrals, as well as infection prevention, epidemic surveillance, community health support, and facility assistance.
Requirements
The role combines clinical leadership with team management, health data handling, logistics, and operational coordination. Selected officers will lead and supervise clinical teams, manage performance, support training, maintain staff safety, and ensure medical quality standards and ethical protocols are met. Responsibilities also include health information management, clinical reporting, liaising with local health authorities and humanitarian partners, monitoring medical supplies and equipment, and supporting safe biomedical waste disposal in compliance with humanitarian principles.
How to apply
Applications must be submitted exclusively through the online application form provided by the organization. Submissions sent via email will not be processed. Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted due to the expected volume of applications.
