Overview
The Fawcett Society is hiring a Senior Investigative Researcher to lead major research projects on women's financial equality. The post is remote within the UK, with some travel around the country. The researcher will look into emerging trends affecting women's economic lives, speak with women about their experiences, test the evidence and turn findings into stories for the public. Over the 12-month contract they will lead two major investigative projects, with considerable freedom to follow new developments. Possible areas include the economics of content creation, extreme beauty trends and the online femosphere, alongside questions about what is happening to women in workplaces and how women make money online.
What you get
The salary is 40,000 to 45,000 pounds on a full-time-equivalent basis. The contract is fixed-term for 12 months, and the postholder can work either three or four days a week.
Who can apply
The Society wants a bold, curious researcher with strong investigative instincts. Candidates may come from journalism, research, campaigning or other investigative fields, and need not have followed a traditional career path or hold a particular job title. Experience conducting research, interviewing people, analysing evidence and communicating findings is particularly relevant, as is the ability to work independently and take a project from an initial question to a final public story.
Requirements
The researcher must be able to speak sensitively and respectfully with women about personal experiences, question commonly accepted assumptions, and examine whether the available information reflects what is really happening in women's lives. They should be prepared to travel in the UK for meetings, interviews or activities when required.
