Overview

The SDG2 Advocacy Hub is recruiting a Deputy CEO & Impact Lead for Africa. The Hub is an international advocacy organisation working to speed progress towards Sustainable Development Goal 2, Zero Hunger. It brings together NGOs, civil society groups, governments, private-sector bodies, UN agencies and researchers to strengthen advocacy and collaboration on food systems, building coalitions and campaigns that turn ideas and evidence into action. Its team is spread across regions, including Zambia, Malawi, Kenya, Portugal, Scotland and Australia.

This is a senior strategic leadership post rather than ordinary programme management. The Deputy CEO works closely with the CEO as a strategic partner, translates strategy into delivery plans, strengthens accountability and alignment across the team, and helps ensure advocacy produces measurable outcomes. Other duties include contributing to governance, deputising for the CEO when needed, shaping the Hub's advocacy and policy positions on food systems, agriculture and climate, building trusted partnerships with governments, donors, UN agencies, businesses and philanthropies, and mentoring staff. The Hub wants these relationships to lead to concrete action. The post carries responsibility for the Operations Director, the Communications Director and three Senior Officers, and involves about 20 to 30 percent travel.

Who can apply

The Hub wants an experienced African leader with strong regional networks and knowledge, able to connect governments, funders, businesses, researchers and advocates around food systems, nutrition and agricultural innovation, and to strengthen Africa's voice in global food discussions. The ideal person is a systems thinker, relationship builder and strategic problem-solver with strong leadership, communication, partnership and management skills, who works across cultures and leads through collaboration. Relevant backgrounds include advocacy, international development, food systems, agriculture, nutrition, climate, philanthropy, policy and coalition building. The role is Africa-based and remote, and candidates must have the right to work in their country of residence.

What you get

The position is full-time with an initial two-year contract. Salary is commensurate with experience, and the range is shared during the application process.

How to apply

Candidates should prepare a strong CV and a tailored cover letter showing leadership experience, understanding of African food systems and ability to build influential partnerships. Applications are considered on a rolling basis until a suitable candidate is found.
