Samuel Hall is recruiting a Senior Research Operations Coordinator to support research projects across Africa. The post is office-based in Nairobi, Kenya, reports to the Research Operations Manager and manages a Research Operations Coordinator. It suits people with significant experience in research operations, field coordination and project implementation in development, humanitarian or research organisations working in African contexts.
The coordinator supports several concurrent projects, helping make sure they are planned, resourced and delivered in line with organisational systems, procedures and quality standards. This includes reviewing field implementation plans and deployment schedules, monitoring progress, timelines and operational performance, and spotting challenges early. They also track operational budgets and spending, flag variances and work with the Research Operations Manager and Finance team on corrective action.
Requirements
The role coordinates the mobilisation, onboarding and deployment of coordinators, consultants and field teams, gives technical guidance during the project lifecycle, monitors performance and offers coaching and feedback, and helps maintain a capable consultant network. Quality assurance is central: the coordinator checks compliance with approved methodologies, ethical standards and procedures, reviews field processes, data collection and documentation, recommends corrective actions and contributes to continuous improvement. They monitor operational risks, support mitigation and safety and security planning for fieldwork, track compliance with organisational policies, donor requirements and research protocols, and escalate serious issues. They also work with programme, research, finance and support teams, and with external stakeholders. Candidates should understand qualitative and quantitative research methods and field implementation, and have experience supervising consultants, enumerators and field staff.
