Overview

Saferworld, an international organisation working on conflict prevention and peacebuilding, is recruiting a Programme Development Manager. The post sits in its Funding and Programme Development Team and supports country teams and civil society partners to co-design programmes and mobilise funding for peace, security and justice work. The manager will focus on about three to four countries, chosen based on the candidate's experience and preferences, working with Regional Directors, Country Managers, programme colleagues and grant management teams.

What you get

The role is a 12-month fixed-term, full-time contract with an advertised UK salary of 43,800 pounds per year. The applicable salary depends on location, with the national salary structure of the relevant country applying. It is available in London, Nairobi, Kampala and Bishkek, and other locations may be considered in countries where Saferworld has a presence.

What the role involves

The manager facilitates participatory co-design processes, drafts concept notes and funding proposals, develops theories of change and logical models, and prepares risk matrices and budgets. The role also develops long-term country funding strategies, supports new donor engagement, maintains existing donor relationships and manages funding portfolios across institutional and non-institutional donors, keeping programmes locally relevant and strategically aligned.

Requirements

Saferworld wants proven programme experience, a strong record in programme and new business development with institutional donors, and excellent proposal and concept-note writing. Relevant donors include Global Affairs Canada, the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office, the European Union, UN agencies, Sida and European government donors. Experience raising funds from trusts and foundations is desirable.

Candidates should be able to facilitate co-creation with civil society partners, understand programme quality, coordinate complex activities with multiple stakeholders and show strong organisational skills.

How to apply

Applicants should review the official job description and recruitment information before applying and confirm the location, salary arrangements and requirements that apply to them.

Key dates

The closing date is 6 October 2026. Interviews are expected during the week beginning 12 October 2026.
