Overview

The University of Sussex invites applications for a full-time postdoctoral Research Fellow position in Experimental Quantum Technology within the School of Mathematical and Physical Sciences. This appointment is fixed-term for 12 months with the possibility of extension, operating within the framework of the EPSRC Quantum Technology Hub focused on quantum computing via integrated and interconnected implementations. The successful candidate will join a team of experienced researchers led by Professor Matthias Keller.

The project centers on combining trapped ions and photons to create a distributed quantum network by implementing an efficient ion-photon interface based on strongly-coupled cavity-QED. The work involves testing and characterizing a developed multi-zone ion trap system, implementing an efficient ion-photon interface, simulating and applying novel schemes for ion-photon entanglement, and subsequently establishing a second system to build a basic quantum network.

Requirements

Applicants must hold a PhD in experimental quantum information, laser physics, or atomic physics and demonstrate working experience in the field. The role requires working with complex optical setups involving diode lasers, ultra-high vacuum systems, and control electronics for experimental operation, making prior experience and a strong understanding of such systems highly beneficial. All work undertaken for the university must be performed within the United Kingdom.

What you get

The position provides a salary ranging from 38,784 to 46,049 British pounds per annum.
