Overview

Three postdoctoral research associate positions are available at the University of Bristol within the School of Chemistry, specifically in the Aggarwal Lab. The roles focus on the development of novel synthetic boron-based methodologies. Responsibilities include designing and synthesizing complex molecules, employing lithiation-borylation to grow carbon chains and larger building blocks for carbon-carbon bond formation, and working on multiple projects simultaneously. Additional duties involve helping with the training and supervision of PhD and final year project students, as well as submitting written reports of experimental results.

Requirements

Applicants should have recent experience in synthetic organic chemistry alongside a body of published work in peer-reviewed learned journals relevant to the post. Candidates must be able to plan and execute experimental work successfully and safely with minimal supervision, and carry out, interpret, and record results from modern spectroscopic techniques including NMR. Familiarity with online database searching such as Beilstein and Chemical Abstracts is required for planning experimental work. Additional qualifications include excellent written and oral communication skills, the ability to present work clearly, meet deadlines, demonstrate strong organizational skills, and work supportively in a laboratory environment with junior co-workers and other research assistants.

What you get

The positions offer a salary ranging from 39,906 to 44,746 British Pounds per annum, corresponding to Grade I. The contracts are full-time at 35 hours per week, operating on a Monday through Friday shift pattern. The roles provide opportunities to develop supervisory, written, teaching, and organizational skills as training for a career in industry or academia. The positions are subject to fixed-term funding with distinct dates: Position 1 runs from January 1, 2027 to December 31, 2027; Position 2 runs from January 7, 2027 to January 6, 2028; and Position 3 runs from January 11, 2027 to June 10, 2028.
