Research Fellow (106549)
Overview
The University of Warwick is hiring a Research Fellow within the School of Life Sciences. This is a full-time, fixed-term contract scheduled to end on 14 May 2027, with a potential extension of up to seven months depending on available budget and funder approval. The position is based on site and involves investigating plant architecture and axillary meristem initiation in cereal crops.
The research focuses on a newly uncovered transcriptional pathway sufficient to induce axillary meristem formation in bread wheat, rice, and other grasses. Using wheat as a model system, the project aims to elucidate this pathway through computational, transcriptomic, and molecular genetic approaches, as well as to understand its activation and regulation using epigenetic and state-of-the-art phenomics techniques. The overarching goal is to understand how plant architecture is regulated to develop strategies that enhance crop yield.
Requirements
Applicants should possess expertise in plant biology, genetics and genomics, bioinformatics, and molecular biology. Individuals with general molecular biology skills acquired in other organisms are also welcome to apply.
Candidates who have not yet been awarded a PhD but are near submission or have recently submitted may still be considered. For candidates in this status, employment offers will be made at the Research Assistant level until official proof of the PhD award is provided, at which point promotion to Research Fellow occurs.
What you get
The salary ranges from £36,320 to £46,970 per annum.
Key dates
The closing date for applications is 29 October 2026.
