Postdoctoral Research Associate (Fixed Term)
Overview
The Department of Genetics at the University of Cambridge invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the group of Dr Felipe Karam Teixeira. The post is full time and fixed term, on site, with funds available for three years in the first instance and a preferred start in January or February 2027, though some flexibility is possible.
The project investigates the molecular mechanisms that drive germline differentiation in vivo, using the Drosophila female germline as a model to explore how multiple layers of gene regulation coordinate the developmental switches needed for oocyte formation. The group's recent work produced a systematic map of the transcriptional and translational changes that accompany germline stem cell differentiation, showing that differentiation is driven by ordered waves of gene-expression remodelling rather than a simple build-up of changes. The new project will study how transcriptional, post-transcriptional, translational and chromatin-associated mechanisms cooperate to control key switches in oogenesis.
What you will do
The group combines high-throughput genomics, including short-read and long-read sequencing, with computational analysis, developmental biology, advanced microscopy and Drosophila genetics. Approaches may include CRISPR-Cas9 genome editing, tissue-specific RNA interference, transgenesis, transcriptomic and epigenomic profiling, immunofluorescence, single-molecule RNA imaging and quantitative confocal microscopy. The postholder has substantial scope to shape the project, introduce complementary approaches and develop an independent scientific profile, and is encouraged to present at international conferences, build collaborations and pursue fellowships.
Requirements
Applicants should hold, or be close to completing, a PhD in molecular biology, genetics, developmental biology, biochemistry, genomics or a related discipline. Experience in germline, stem cell or developmental biology is encouraged, and expertise in sequencing-based methods such as RNA-seq, ATAC-seq, ChIP-seq, CUT&Tag or Hi-C, or in confocal microscopy, would be valuable. Drosophila experience is an advantage but not essential, as training can be provided. Candidates need a solid research record, the ability to design and troubleshoot complex experiments, rigorous quantitative analysis, scientific creativity and excellent communication skills.
What you get
The salary is 37,694 to 46,049 GBP per year.
Key dates
The closing date is 8 November 2026.
