Postdoctoral Research Associate
Overview
The Roslin Institute, part of the Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies at the University of Edinburgh, is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in livestock genome engineering. The post is full time at 35 hours per week and fixed term for three years or until 31 March 2030, based on site. It belongs to a project funded by the Gates Foundation that aims to improve dairy productivity in cattle in low- and middle-income countries.
The fellow works alongside quantitative geneticists and computational biologists to develop and use genome engineering approaches in cattle cells, testing genetic changes that AI models and genetic studies have prioritised as candidates for improving milk production and feed efficiency. The team of wet-lab and computational biologists uses genetic improvement to tackle challenges in livestock production, from productivity and sustainability to disease.
What you will do
The role combines genome engineering skills with an understanding of gene regulation to address real-world problems in tropical small-holder livestock systems. The fellow builds an international network across academia, industry and breeding partners and contributes to the wider engineering biology environment at Roslin.
