Overview

The University of Edinburgh is seeking a Post-Doctoral Research Associate to join the Institute of Genetics and Cancer. The position involves working in Professor Martin Taylor's group as part of the international Cancer Grand Challenges CAUSE team. The focus of the research is to investigate the mechanisms that drive mutagenesis and to relate DNA damage to the mutations it generates. The role centers on developing and applying technologies to enrich for and map DNA damage and modifications in the human genome, as well as examining how that damage is processed into repair, mutagenesis, or tolerance. Co-supervision within the institute will be provided by Dr Tom Deegan.

Who can apply

Candidates must hold a PhD in molecular biology, biochemistry, or a related discipline to be appointed at the Research Associate level. Individuals who are close to completing their PhDs may also be considered if they possess directly relevant experience.

What you get

The position offers a salary between £41,064 and £48,822 per annum, which is paid pro-rata for part-time schedules under Grade UE07. The initial contract is fixed-term for 24 months, with a possibility of extension. The role involves 35 hours per week on a full-time basis, though flexible or part-time working patterns are also open for consideration. The work arrangement is hybrid. The role provides opportunities for multidisciplinary collaboration across the Institute of Genetics and Cancer and with project partners at the Sanger Institute, Hubrecht Institute, Harvard University, University of San Diego, and University of Minnesota, alongside professional development through the Cancer Grand Challenge community.

Requirements

Applicants need experience in molecular biology, nucleic acid manipulation, and core biochemistry techniques such as protein purification. Familiarity with high-throughput sequencing and mass-spectrometry data analysis platforms is considered an advantage.
