Senior Research Associate in Translational Biophysical Chemistry and Imaging (Fixed Term)
Overview
The University of Cambridge is offering a full-time, fixed-term position for a Senior Research Associate in the Yusuf Hamied Department of Chemistry. Working with Professor Steven F. Lee, the appointee will contribute to a translational research programme focused on developing an imaging-based drug discovery platform for neurodegenerative disease, with an initial emphasis on alpha synuclein aggregation in Parkinson's disease. The role combines advanced physical chemistry, neurodegeneration research, and drug discovery, aiming to transition single molecule technologies into a robust, commercially credible platform with a clear route to market. Funding is available for 12 months in the first instance.
Who can apply
Candidates must hold a PhD in chemistry, biophysics, biochemistry, neuroscience, or a related discipline, alongside substantial postdoctoral or equivalent research experience and expertise in quantitative biological or biophysical research. Applicants are required to demonstrate scientific independence, experience working across disciplinary boundaries, and responsibility for complex research projects. Particularly valuable attributes include experience in single molecule microscopy, advanced fluorescence microscopy, protein aggregation, neurodegeneration, high throughput screening, or quantitative image analysis. Advantageous qualifications also include prior involvement with external organisations, technology translation, innovation, commercialisation, industry engagement, or research strategy. Excellent communication, organisational, and project management skills are essential.
What you get
The position provides a salary of £42,254 to £56,535 per annum on a full-time and fixed-term basis. The appointee will take on substantial independent responsibility for research development, coordination with external partners, and commercial strategy, contributing directly to publications, funding applications, and scientific leadership.
