Overview

The Loke Centre for Trophoblast Research (CTR) at the University of Cambridge, hosted by the Department of Physiology, Development and Neuroscience in central Cambridge, is recruiting a Next Generation Fellow. Founded in 2007, the centre promotes the scientific study of the placenta, early development and maternal-fetal interactions in pregnancy, and brings together more than 30 Principal Investigators.

The fellowship is a springboard to a career in placental and reproductive biology and is flexible to suit individual needs. Fellows are mentored to establish an independent research programme that complements the centre's existing groups. They contribute fully to the centre and their host department, supervise MPhil, masters, summer or undergraduate students, and may be co-applicants on grants to recruit and train researchers and PhD students. Fellows are expected to publish high-impact papers, share their results, and comply with relevant laws including Home Office, HTA and HFEA rules. They are supported in applying for research fellowships, career development awards or faculty posts during the tenure.

What you get

The post is full time and fixed term for 3 years, with a possible extension of up to one year. It is at Grade 7, with pay of 37,694 to 46,049 pounds per year for appointments in 2027. The contract also includes 60,000 pounds for research consumables and equipment and up to 750 pounds of travel support over the fellowship.

Requirements

Candidates should hold a PhD and have a strong publication record in academic journals or equivalent. Research across a diverse range of topics relevant to the centre's Grand Challenges is welcome. Appointees must be eligible to live and work in the UK.

How to apply

Candidates first choose a research sponsor from the centre's Principal Investigators and discuss their plans with them. Applications are made online and need a CV, up to three letters of reference, a letter of support from the chosen sponsor and the centre's fellowship application form.

Key dates

The closing date is midnight on 31 January 2027.
