Overview
The Guttmacher Institute is seeking a Director of Global Advocacy to lead its international advocacy strategy for sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR). The job is full time and remote, and candidates outside the United States may also be considered. The director reports to the Vice President for Global Research and Advocacy and turns research into policy narratives, advocacy materials and campaigns, engaging decision-makers at global, regional, national and sub-national levels. They will represent the organisation at United Nations meetings, the World Health Assembly and regional intergovernmental gatherings.
Responsibilities include identifying policy opportunities where research can influence decisions, monitoring political developments, advising senior leaders on opportunities and risks, building ties with UN agencies, governments, donors, NGOs and coalitions, developing partnerships across sub-Saharan Africa, South Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean, producing policy briefs, toolkits and position papers, supporting campaigns and digital advocacy, cultivating funding for advocacy programmes, and supervising and mentoring staff and consultants.
Requirements
Applicants need at least 10 years of progressively responsible experience in global advocacy, international policy or a related field, experience across Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean, and the Asia-Pacific region, and substantial experience in more than one area of SRHR. A Master's degree in public policy, international relations, human rights, public health, international development or a related field is required. Candidates should show success influencing policy and working with UN processes, build coalitions, and have team leadership experience. Fluency in another language, especially French or Spanish, is highly valued, and experience in low- and middle-income countries is preferred.
