Overview

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) is recruiting an Agribusiness Finance Officer at the P-3 level in Rome, Italy. The post is in the Asia and the Pacific Service of the FAO Investment Centre, which designs investment and finance solutions for more efficient, inclusive, sustainable and resilient agrifood systems in more than 120 countries. The officer reports to the Chief of the Asia and the Pacific Service.

The contract is fixed-term for one year, with possible extension.

What the role involves

The officer works in multidisciplinary teams to identify, prepare and support investment solutions across food security, agriculture, rural development, natural resource management and agro-processing. Duties include supporting the design and appraisal of agrifood finance operations with international financial institutions, analysing barriers to finance in selected value chains, improving the bankability of investments, and supporting blended finance tools such as guarantees, concessional financing and risk-sharing facilities. The role also covers studies, strategies, sector investment plans, capacity development, reports for governments and financing partners, and resource mobilisation.

Requirements

Applicants need an advanced university degree in economics, agricultural economics, agribusiness, finance, agriculture, agro-industry, business administration or a related field, and at least five years of relevant experience applying agribusiness finance, particularly with financial institutions and agribusiness investments in developing countries. English is required, plus intermediate knowledge of Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish. Candidates must be able to write technical reports in English.
