CUNY Seeks an Assistant Professor in History of Science and Technology in Asia 2026 (Tenure-Track)
Overview
The City College of New York (CCNY), part of the City University of New York (CUNY), is inviting applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor in the History of Science and Technology in Asia. The post is in the Department of History in New York City. Scholars of any geographic or chronological area of Asia are welcome if their research explores links between science, technology, society, culture, politics, economics, the environment or transnational history. Work on regional or global connections between Asia and other parts of the world is also welcomed.
CCNY was founded more than 175 years ago and serves over 17,000 undergraduate and graduate students in fields including liberal arts, engineering, architecture, education and biomedical sciences. It counts ten Nobel laureates among its associates.
What the role involves
The appointee will teach undergraduate and graduate courses, including History of Science and Technology, Asian History, undergraduate electives in their specialty, master's-level history courses and general education courses. Faculty are also expected to help with curriculum development, student mentoring, departmental service and scholarly engagement.
Who can apply
Applicants need a Ph.D. in History or a closely related field, demonstrated ability to teach successfully at university level, evidence of scholarly achievement and ongoing research, and the ability to collaborate within an academic institution. The department particularly welcomes strong scholarly potential, research using relevant languages, commitment to teaching, and active research, publication and service. Scholars working on transnational, environmental, cultural, political, economic or social histories of science and technology are especially encouraged.
