Overview

Spark MicroGrants is recruiting a Senior Global Programs Director, a full-time remote leadership role focused on scaling programmes, working with governments and delivering impact across Africa. Primary locations are Kigali in Rwanda, Lilongwe in Malawi and Accra in Ghana, and other remote locations in East and Southern Africa may be considered. The director sits in the Executive department and works within the Global Programs Team.

The post provides strategic oversight and support to Country Directors and programme teams, helping ensure high-quality delivery, expansion, financial sustainability and national-level impact. Responsibilities include leading national-scale programmes in countries such as Rwanda, Malawi, Ghana and Uganda, building relationships with senior government stakeholders, supporting government financing and working with bodies like the World Bank and bilateral partners.

Requirements

Applicants should have at least 12 years of relevant experience, including at least 5 years managing senior leaders such as Country Directors, and a strong record in government engagement and policy influencing. Other requirements include experience leading organizations or major programmes, monitoring and evaluation, finance, operations and grant management, rural development programme design, project management and resource mobilisation. A Master's degree in international development, social sciences, economics, management or a related field is expected, along with excellent written and spoken English.

The director manages Country Directors, the Partnership and Systems Manager and other senior staff, supports recruitment and coaching, tracks timelines, budgets and risks, strengthens quality assurance and safeguarding, and reviews spending.
