Overview

Batch Robotics is a team of four people with more than 25 years of combined experience in industry and robotics, working to make robots smarter and more flexible through perception and AI so that batch-size-1 automation for surface treatment becomes economical. It is looking for a Working Student (Werkstudent) in robotics hardware and electronics at its lab in Munich, Germany.

The working student gets hands-on with robot systems, building, wiring and seeing hardware run in a real factory, working directly with engineers and founders. Tasks cover building and wiring robot cells, which includes mounting collaborative robots, cameras and sensors, wiring control cabinets, crimping cables, soldering and powering up the system. They also include reading and extending electrical schematics, selecting components and debugging with a multimeter and oscilloscope, running bring-up and end-of-line tests, documenting failures and writing small Python tools to talk to sensors, log data and automate repetitive steps, designing and 3D-printing mounts and adapters with CAD training provided, ordering components and keeping the lab and hardware stock in order.

Who can apply

Applicants must be enrolled in electrical engineering, mechatronics, robotics or a related field at a Munich university and remain enrolled for at least six more months. No experience is required, but the company wants people who build things outside of lectures, such as in Formula Student, rocketry, a makerspace, RC models or self-built circuit boards, and who have actually used a soldering iron and multimeter.

Requirements

Candidates should be comfortable with schematics, wiring and basic measurement equipment, know Linux and be able to write a Python script. Experience with 24 V industrial wiring, control cabinets or fieldbuses is a plus. A Class B driving licence is needed for occasional supplier pickups and customer site visits. Availability is about 20 hours a week during the semester, ideally in full days and flexible during breaks, on site in Munich.

What you get

The pay is 16 to 18 euros per hour depending on experience. The role offers work on systems shipped to customers, mentoring from experienced founders and engineers, topics of your own from day one, a possible route into a bachelor's or master's thesis and, if it fits both sides, a permanent role after studies. The workspace is modern and central, with a well-equipped lab and an international team that works in English.

How to apply

Applicants send a CV, with no cover letter required, and describe in two sentences what they have built with their own hands. The process is a 20-minute intro call followed by a visit to the lab in Munich.
