Overview

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) is offering a PSP Fundraising Intern (Donor Care & Development) position in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The intern joins the Private Sector Partnerships team, which began operating in Malaysia in 2017 to grow contributions from individual donors, corporations and foundations. The Donor Care & Development team was set up in 2025 to manage individual donors through retention, development and engagement activities.

The internship is expected to begin on 1 November 2026. It is full-time, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday to Friday, totaling 40 hours per week. UNHCR internships normally last between two and six months, with possible extension up to eight months for full-time internships and 12 months for part-time ones.

Who can apply

Applicants must be current undergraduate or graduate students at an accredited institution, or recent graduates who finished within two years of applying. They must have completed at least two years of undergraduate study in a field relevant to or of interest to UNHCR. People who have already used UNHCR's maximum cumulative internship period of eight months full-time or 12 months part-time are not eligible, nor are those with a close relative who is a UNHCR staff member or affiliate. Candidates must be eligible to reside and legally work in Malaysia.

Requirements

English at B2 level is required, along with comfort using Microsoft Office 365 applications, particularly Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook. Knowledge of Canva and of an additional language is an advantage. UNHCR looks for independent, proactive, fast-learning candidates with communication, organizational, analytical and creative skills.

The intern supports donor communication materials such as emails, direct mail, website content, WhatsApp messages, social media and telemarketing materials, and researches content using UNHCR's internal media library. They also monitor and analyse engagement across channels, update reports from platforms such as Selligent, consolidate donor data, support donor events, monitor vendors handling printing, mailing and creative services, and answer donor enquiries.

What you get

Interns without financial support from another party receive an allowance to partly cover food, local transport and living costs. Eligible interns travelling from outside Malaysia may have authorized economy-class travel reimbursed, subject to conditions and prior written authorization.

How to apply

Applications go through the UNHCR careers platform. A CV should show education, relevant experience, communication and digital skills, and any fundraising, marketing, research, volunteer or humanitarian experience.

Key dates

The closing date is 13 October 2026, and the internship is expected to start on 1 November 2026.
