Overview

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) is recruiting an Assistant Information Management Officer for Cox's Bazar, Bangladesh, under the UNOPS LICA-8 contractual modality. The full-time post supports the Rohingya refugee response by strengthening data management, monitoring, reporting and evidence-based decision-making. The officer works with Programme, Protection and Operational Data Management teams and implementing partners to produce information that guides humanitarian planning and refugee protection.

What the role involves

The officer applies UNHCR information management standards and operational datasets, collects, compiles and analyzes humanitarian data, and supports data quality assurance and consistency checks. They develop standardized information products and reports, produce statistical analyses for programme planning, and support monitoring and evaluation, needs assessments and baseline data collection.

Other duties include supporting Geographic Information Systems and map production, managing databases and information portals, sharing operational data with humanitarian partners, giving technical advice on information management systems, training staff who collect and enter data, joining coordination meetings with government and humanitarian partners, and supporting risk management and continuous improvement.

Requirements

Applicants need a Bachelor's degree in information technology, statistics, information management, data science, demography, social sciences or another relevant field. Bachelor's holders need one year of relevant professional experience, while Master's or doctoral holders may apply without prior experience.

UNHCR looks for knowledge of information management systems, humanitarian data standards, monitoring and evaluation methods, and quantitative and qualitative analysis. Experience with humanitarian organizations or the UN system is an advantage. Familiarity with software such as Microsoft Excel, Access, SPSS, STATA, EpiInfo, EpiData, KOBO Collect, ArcGIS, SQL Server, MapInfo or proGres strengthens an application, and web technologies such as HTML, PHP, ASP or Java are desirable. Knowledge of the Rohingya refugee response and experience supporting refugee operations are additional assets.

Key dates

Applications close on 15 August 2026. Shortlisted candidates may be invited to written assessments and competency-based interviews.
