Overview

Snowflake is offering a paid, full-time Software Engineer Internship in Zurich within Observe by Snowflake, an AI-powered observability platform built on the Snowflake Data Cloud. The platform ingests and stores logs, metrics, traces and events on an open data lake using open formats such as Apache Iceberg, and uses a knowledge graph and a chat-based AI site reliability assistant to help teams get from detection to root cause faster.

The internship is with the Infrastructure team, a small, collaborative group that builds, scales and operates the development and production environments behind the platform. Interns are treated as full members of the engineering team and may later be offered full-time roles or further internships.

What you will learn

Interns learn how to build reliable enterprise-grade software and gain exposure to SQL and other database technologies such as Spark and Hadoop, database internals, large-scale data processing, observability, distributed systems and warehouse scheduling. They implement and test features in metrics processing, warehouse scheduling and query execution, work with cloud infrastructure on AWS, Azure or Google Cloud, and learn about current database research. Possible focus areas include data management from ingestion to batch and streaming, the data processing control plane, metrics product features and enterprise features.

Requirements

Applicants must be actively enrolled in an accredited university programme during the internship and hold a completed bachelor's degree with a master's or PhD in progress, ideally in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, physics, math or a related field. Coursework in algorithms, data structures and operating systems is required, and excellent programming skills in C++ or Golang, systems programming skills including multi-threading and concurrency, strong problem solving and fluent English are expected. Research or publications in databases or distributed systems, open-source contributions and big data experience are a bonus.

Key dates

The internship lasts between four and twelve months, with six months recommended and a flexible start date. Target start dates are January 2027 and later.

What you get

Benefits include access to managers and mentors, regular feedback and a final evaluation, flexible hours, a casual dress code, home working accommodations, catered lunches and company social events.
