Overview

The International Organization for Migration is offering a six-month internship in the Netherlands with its Labour Mobility, Social Inclusion and Resettlement Unit, expected to start in early 2027. The post is listed under job identification 23165. Interns work under experienced IOM staff on operational, administrative, research, coordination and communication tasks.

The intern learns about the Dutch policy and operational context for resettlement and family reunification, including IOM's role, government authorities and partner organizations. Duties include supporting project teams through coordination, stakeholder follow-up, project documents, meeting organization and file maintenance. The intern also reviews and summarizes policy documents, reports and news on migration, asylum, resettlement, family reunification and complementary pathways, assists with social media content, briefing notes, presentations and website materials, and supports new project ideas through background research, stakeholder mapping and concept notes.

Who can apply

Applicants should be in the final year of a first university degree, enrolled in a graduate programme, or graduated and able to start within one year of graduation. Relevant fields include International Relations, Political Science, Migration Studies, European Studies, Law, Sociology and Public Administration. The internship programme targets students and graduates aged 20 to 36 who generally have under two years of relevant work experience.

Requirements

Fluency in Dutch and excellent spoken and written English are required, and another United Nations language is an asset. Language ability may be tested during selection. Strong research, analytical, communication and organizational skills are needed, along with attention to detail and interest in migration. Experience writing project proposals or supporting fundraising is an advantage, as is previous work with an international organization or NGO.

What you get

Interns may receive a small monthly stipend, unless they already receive an allowance or scholarship that includes remuneration or academic credit. IOM provides occupational accident and illness coverage, while interns arrange their own medical insurance for other cases.

How to apply

Applications go through the IOM e-Recruitment system, and only shortlisted candidates are contacted. IOM charges no fees at any stage. The deadline is October 12, 2026.
