The Sahara Centre Is Hiring for 2 Fully Remote Research Jobs – Apply From Anywhere
Overview
The Sahara Centre, an independent think tank in Lagos, Nigeria, is recruiting a Research Assistant and a Researcher. Both posts are fully remote, fixed-term for about three or six months, and can be done from anywhere in the world. The Centre aims to reframe indigenous knowledge as strategic intelligence for Africa's development, and runs initiatives such as Lantern Lab, INDIGO, white paper salons and the Mangrove Sessions.

Tasks include literature reviews and background research, data collection and basic cleaning, drafting sections of outputs, keeping organized records, tracking sources and citations, taking part virtually in programming such as Lantern Lab, attending meetings with the project lead, and meeting deadlines. Applicants should have recently completed a master's degree or be in PhD candidacy, although those with a First Class or Second Class Upper bachelor's degree may be considered. Coursework, thesis or internship experience and basic knowledge of research methods, source evaluation and analytical writing are an advantage, as is interest in indigenous knowledge and African development.
Researcher
The Researcher designs and carries out original projects using suitable qualitative or quantitative methods, manages timelines, drafts journal articles and policy papers, produces public-facing outputs, represents the Centre at conferences and networks, contributes to its publishing programme and may supervise interns and graduate assistants. Applicants should ideally hold a PhD in a field such as development studies, African studies or political economy, although strong master's holders or those nearing a PhD defence may be considered. A publication record and experience running independent projects are expected.
Working arrangement
Candidates need reliable internet and must attend scheduled virtual meetings during Lagos working hours, West Africa Time.
How to apply
Applications include a letter of interest, preferred availability of three or six months, salary expectations and a CV, submitted through the Centre's careers page. They remain open until the positions are filled.
